  • Four Fall Events in West Lafayette This October

Fall is a time for scarecrows, haunted houses, treats, and corn mazes. This month the Collegiate Communities blog is here to remind you of the events in or near West Lafayette that will cater to one or all of those fall staples. You won’t want to miss these four events, so venture out of your apartment and have a great time!

Trail of Scarecrows

Check out your fellow Hoosier’s creativity by seeing the scarecrows that community businesses, organizations, and families designed for the trail. Submit “penny votes” for your favorite scarecrow at the visitor center. Funds from the votes will benefit the interpretive programs at Prophetstown State Park.

When: October 1st through October 30th, all day. Scarecrows will be removed between November 7th and November 12th.

Where: Prophetstown State Park. 5545 Swisher Road, West Lafayette, IN 47906

Admission: Free to enter a scarecrow. $8 gate fee for noncommercial vehicles with Indiana license plates entering the park, $10 for noncommercial vehicles with out-of-state license plates.

Exploration Acres

Run through Northwest Indiana’s largest corn maze, but try not to get lost in the 18-acre corn maze’s eight miles of twists and turns. Participate in a pedal car race, fire a corn cannon salute, or play in the hay at Exploration Acres this October for great fall fun.

When: September 15th through October 30th. Thursdays 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Fridays 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., Sundays Noon to 7 p.m.

Where: 6042 Newcastle Road between I-65 and US 52

Admission: $10.50 for adults 13 and older, $7.50 for military and seniors 65 and older, $7.50 for children ages 6 to 12, free with paid admission for children 5 and younger. See the website for discounts and group rates.

Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay through Tippecanoe County

Celebrate Indiana’s 200th birthday by watching the passing of the torch. The relay is supposed to symbolize connecting generations of Hoosiers and “igniting” their future. Torchbearers will begin at Columbian Park and go through Downtown Lafayette, West Lafayette and Purdue.

When: October 12th, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Where: Starting location: Columbian Park. 1915 Scott Street, Lafayette, IN 47904

Admission: Free.

Haunted Adams Mill

Join hundreds of other visitors and check out the decorated haunted Adams Mill for a spooky night tour. Built in 1845 and flooded in 2003, this mill is full of history and tragedy. Some might even say you can feel the mystery seeping through the hand-hewn timbers that make up the framework...

When: October 22nd, 29th, and 31st, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Where: Adams Mill. County Road South 75 East, Cutler, IN 46920

Admission: $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 4 to 12, free for children under 4 years.
